The San Jose Missions were the 1977–1982 rebranding of the San Jose Bees — a long-running California League franchise that operated mostly as an independent club in the minor leagues. During the Missions years the team captured a 1979 California League championship.
The Missions name was dropped after the 1982 season and the team reverted to the Bees identity, continuing as one of the few independent franchises in the league. Notable players across the Bees/Missions eras included Frank White, Dave LaRoche, Alfredo Griffin, Bud Black, Dave Henderson, Ken Reitz, Norio Tanabe, and Kimiyasu Kudō.
