The Hartford Whalers were one of the most beloved Legacy Hockey franchises of the 1980s and 90s — a small-market club whose passionate New England fanbase, distinctive green-and-blue colors, and the most beloved goal song in pro sports history ("Brass Bonanza") made them a cult favorite even in defeat.
Founded as the New England Whalers in the World Hockey Association (WHA) in 1972 and relocating to Hartford in 1974, the franchise joined the top tier of North American professional hockey in the 1979 merger that absorbed four WHA clubs. Renamed the Hartford Whalers (Boston refused to share the geographic market), the team built its identity around Ron Francis — the future Hall of Famer who anchored the franchise from 1981 through 1991 — alongside the elder statesmen of the early WHA years (Gordie Howe, Bobby Hull, Dave Keon, Mark Howe). Despite consistently small crowds at the 15,635-seat Civic Center, the Whalers were a fixture of professional hockey for nearly two decades before relocating to North Carolina in 1997.

How to order
- Type the number and/or name you'd like on the jersey in the customization fields. You can leave the name field blank if you only want a number.
- To order a fully blank jersey, check the "Leave blank" box. Blank jerseys still require full production time — we don't keep them in stock.
Important review carefully before ordering
Once your order is placed:
- Changes can only be made within 48 hours of purchase. After 48 hours, the order has entered production and we can't modify it.
- Cancellations after 48 hours are subject to a 20% restocking fee.
Construction options
Many jerseys offer choices like application method (replica/printed vs sewn tackle twill), sleeve length, or add-on patches. The available options appear on the customization screen as you go through it.
Custom measurements
We can produce jerseys in custom measurements including women's and youth sizes. We can also modify other details on the jerseys shown on the site. For these requests, email custom@royalretros.com before ordering.
Blank-jersey exchanges
Custom jerseys ordered blank (no name or number) can be exchanged for another size or for store credit. Custom jerseys with a name or number printed/sewn are final sale.

Production timeframe
Custom jerseys are made-to-order and ship in 3-7 weeks depending on construction style. The exact lead time for the style you choose is shown on the Decoration Type screen during customization.
Expedited shipping
Choosing an expedited shipping method does not speed up production, it only affects how we ship the order once it's been made. If you need your jersey by a specific date, contact us before ordering.
Domestic rates
Standard shipping starts at $5.99. Free Economy shipping on US orders $125+. International shipping available to most countries.

Please review your order carefully before checkout. Changes cannot be made more than 48 hours after purchase. Cancellations made after 48 hours are subject to a 20% restocking fee.

- Custom jerseys ordered blank (no name or number) can be exchanged for another size or for store credit.
- If a jersey arrives damaged or incorrect, we'll remake it at no charge or issue a full refund. email info@royalretros.com within 7 days of delivery with your order number and a photo.
