The Detroit Cougars are the original incarnation of one of professional hockey's most storied franchises — the team that would become the Detroit Falcons (1930–1932) and then the Detroit Red Wings (1932–present). Founded in September 1926 when a Detroit group led by Charles A. Hughes purchased the Victoria Cougars of the Western Hockey League and relocated them to Detroit, the franchise initially could not play in its new home: the Detroit Olympia was still under construction.
The Cougars spent their inaugural 1926–27 season playing home games across the Detroit River at the Border Cities Arena in Windsor, Ontario, before finally moving into the Detroit Olympia for the 1927–28 season. That same season, Jack Adams joined as coach — beginning what would become a 36-year run as either coach or general manager that shaped the entire franchise. In 1930, financial struggles led to a rebrand as the Detroit Falcons, and in 1932 James E. Norris purchased the team out of receivership and renamed it the Detroit Red Wings. The Cougars' four-season run was the foundation that built one of hockey's enduring dynasties, and their place in Legacy Hockey history is secure as the team that started it all in Detroit.

How to order
- Type the number and/or name you'd like on the jersey in the customization fields. You can leave the name field blank if you only want a number.
- To order a fully blank jersey, check the "Leave blank" box. Blank jerseys still require full production time — we don't keep them in stock.
Important review carefully before ordering
Once your order is placed:
- Changes can only be made within 48 hours of purchase. After 48 hours, the order has entered production and we can't modify it.
- Cancellations after 48 hours are subject to a 20% restocking fee.
Construction options
Many jerseys offer choices like application method (replica/printed vs sewn tackle twill), sleeve length, or add-on patches. The available options appear on the customization screen as you go through it.
Custom measurements
We can produce jerseys in custom measurements including women's and youth sizes. We can also modify other details on the jerseys shown on the site. For these requests, email custom@royalretros.com before ordering.
Blank-jersey exchanges
Custom jerseys ordered blank (no name or number) can be exchanged for another size or for store credit. Custom jerseys with a name or number printed/sewn are final sale.

Production timeframe
Custom jerseys are made-to-order and ship in 3-7 weeks depending on construction style. The exact lead time for the style you choose is shown on the Decoration Type screen during customization.
Expedited shipping
Choosing an expedited shipping method does not speed up production, it only affects how we ship the order once it's been made. If you need your jersey by a specific date, contact us before ordering.

Standard shipping starts at $5.99. Free Economy shipping on US orders $125+. International shipping available to most countries.

- Custom jerseys ordered blank (no name or number) can be exchanged for another size or for store credit.
- If a jersey arrives damaged or incorrect, we'll remake it at no charge or issue a full refund. email info@royalretros.com within 7 days of delivery with your order number and a photo.
