The 1972 Summit Series was the most consequential international hockey event of the twentieth century — an eight-game series between Canada and the Soviet Union that proved the elite of Canadian professional hockey could be challenged by Soviet amateurs trained under a state-funded program. The series began September 2 in Montreal and ended September 28 in Moscow, drawing a Canadian television audience of roughly 16 million viewers — more than half the country's population at the time.

Down three games to one entering the Moscow leg, Canada won three of the final four games, capped by Paul Henderson's goal with 34 seconds remaining in Game 8 — one of the most iconic moments in Canadian sports history. The red-and-white maple-leaf Summit Series jersey, worn by Phil Esposito, Bobby Clarke, Yvan Cournoyer, and the rest of the Canadian roster, became an enduring symbol of Canadian hockey identity and remains one of the most-collected pieces of international hockey apparel.

  • Changes can only be made within 48 hours of purchase. After 48 hours, the order has entered production and we can't modify it.
  • Cancellations after 48 hours are subject to a 20% restocking fee.

Construction options

Many jerseys offer choices like application method (replica/printed vs sewn tackle twill), sleeve length, or add-on patches. The available options appear on the customization screen as you go through it.

Custom measurements

We can produce jerseys in custom measurements including women's and youth sizes. We can also modify other details on the jerseys shown on the site. For these requests, email custom@royalretros.com before ordering.

Blank-jersey exchanges

Custom jerseys ordered blank (no name or number) can be exchanged for another size or for store credit. Custom jerseys with a name or number printed/sewn are final sale.

Production timeframe

Custom jerseys are made-to-order and ship in 3-7 weeks depending on construction style. The exact lead time for the style you choose is shown on the Decoration Type screen during customization.

Expedited shipping

Choosing an expedited shipping method does not speed up production, it only affects how we ship the order once it's been made. If you need your jersey by a specific date, contact us before ordering.
