The Atlantic Schooners are one of the most famous never-played franchises in Canadian pro football. Originally awarded as a 1984 expansion franchise to bring the league to Atlantic Canada (Halifax), the Schooners were forced to suspend operations before their inaugural season when stadium financing collapsed.

The Schooners name was revived multiple times across subsequent decades as Halifax-area ownership groups attempted to bring an expansion franchise to the Maritimes.
