The Miami Floridians started as the Minnesota Muskies, charter members of the ABA. They spent only one season in the Twin Cities before relocating to Miami. In their first two seasons in South Florida, the team was coached by Hall of Famer Jim Pollard.
In 1970, owner Ned Doyle replaced the entire roster and changed the name to simply The Floridians. The franchise played at various arenas around Florida but struggled with poor attendance, eventually folding after the 1971–72 season. Notable players included Donnie Freeman and Warren Jabali.
