Known locally as the Aztecas Dorados de Monterrey, the club played a single 1969 season in the Continental Football League, making it the first professional American-football team based in Mexico. The team was part of an experiment to expand pro football into Mexico, drawing on Monterrey's strong amateur football culture.

The Continental Football League folded after the 1969 season, leaving the Aztecas Dorados a unique footnote as the earliest pro American-football presence south of the U.S. border.
