The Hartford Knights played six seasons across three different minor leagues from 1968 to 1973 at Dillon Stadium, one of the most successful and durable minor league football franchises of their era. The Knights won league titles in 1968 and 1972, took their division every season, and never finished worse than second in the standings.

Notable players included fullback Marv Hubbard, later a Pro Bowler with the NFL Raiders, along with quarterback Manch Wheeler and Mel Meeks.
