The Soul are one of the most well-known teams in Arena Football League history. The team was established in 2004 by a group of high-profile investors led by Craig Spencer and rock musician Jon Bon Jovi. Minority stakes were held by Philadelphia Eagles legend Ron “Jaws” Jaworski and Bon Jovi’s bandmate, Richie Sambora. The team won the Arena Bowl in 2008, but shut down with the entire league the following season. The team returned in 2011, led by Spencer and Jaworski from the original ownership group. Former Eagles coach Dick Vermeil and former Saints receiver Marcus Colston joined later as minority investors. After missing the playoffs their first season back, the Soul ran off a string of eight straight postseason appearances, including back to back Arena Bowl victories in 2016 and 2017. In 2023, the league was once again revived with the Soul included.
