The Memphis Express were one of eight teams in the Alliance of American Football (AAF), a spring football circuit that began play in February 2019. The name was inspired by the FedEx (formerly called Federal Express, of course) hub at the Memphis airport. FedEX head Fred Smith, who had owned the Canadian football Mad Dogs, had no involvement in the AAF as it was a single entity league that never progressed to offering stand alone franchises. The league and all eight clubs folded after seven games.
