The Flint Generals played sixteen seasons in the International Hockey League, arriving as an expansion club in 1969 and turning the IMA Sports Arena into one of the loudest buildings in minor league hockey. Flint was a factory town that took to the sport quickly, and the Generals spent the better part of two decades as the thing to do on a winter night downtown.
The peak came in the spring of 1984. Flint swept the Toledo Goaldiggers in a best-of-seven final to take the Turner Cup — the franchise's first and only championship in its original run, and still the high-water mark of professional hockey in the city.
It ended abruptly. A dispute with the IMA Sports Arena over weekend playing dates pushed ownership to move the franchise to Saginaw in July 1985, barely a year after the title. The Generals name was revived in Flint by later clubs, but the IMA years are the ones people mean when they talk about Generals hockey.

How to order
- Type the number and/or name you'd like on the jersey in the customization fields. You can leave the name field blank if you only want a number.
- Names and numbers are made in ALL CAPS by default. If you want a specific style — such as a lowercase letter or mixed case — please add to the order notes, and/or email custom@royalretros.com.
- To order a fully blank jersey, check the "Leave blank" box. Blank jerseys still require full production time — we don't keep them in stock.
Important review carefully before ordering
Once your order is placed:
- Changes can only be made within 48 hours of purchase. After 48 hours, the order has entered production and we can't modify it.
- Cancellations after 48 hours are subject to a 20% restocking fee.
Construction options
Many jerseys offer choices like application method (replica/printed vs sewn tackle twill), sleeve length, or add-on patches. The available options appear on the customization screen as you go through it.
Custom measurements
We can produce jerseys in custom measurements including women's and youth sizes. We can also modify other details on the jerseys shown on the site. For these requests, email custom@royalretros.com before ordering.
Blank-jersey exchanges
Custom jerseys ordered blank (no name or number) can be exchanged for another size or for store credit. Custom jerseys with a name or number printed/sewn are final sale.

Production timeframe
Custom jerseys are made-to-order and ship in 3-7 weeks depending on construction style. The exact lead time for the style you choose is shown on the Decoration Type screen during customization.
Expedited shipping
Choosing an expedited shipping method does not speed up production, it only affects how we ship the order once it's been made. If you need your jersey by a specific date, contact us before ordering.

Standard shipping starts at $5.99. Free Economy shipping on US orders $125+. International shipping available to most countries.

- If a jersey arrives damaged or incorrect, we'll remake it at no charge or issue a full refund. email info@royalretros.com within 7 days of delivery with your order number and a photo.
