The Charlotte Sting played 10 seasons in the WNBA from 1997 to 2006 as one of the league's eight original 1997 franchises. The Sting reached the 2001 WNBA Finals (losing to the Los Angeles Sparks) and featured stars including Andrea Stinson, Dawn Staley (the future Hall of Fame coach), and Allison Feaster.
The Sting folded after the 2006 season when the franchise's ownership transferred and operations were suspended.
