The St. Louis Browns (1902–1953) spent half a century as the American League's other St. Louis franchise, sharing Sportsman's Park with the Cardinals before relocating to Baltimore and becoming the Orioles. The St. Louis Stars of the Negro National League produced Hall of Famers Cool Papa Bell, Mule Suttles, and Willie Wells, winning multiple league championships. The Spirits of St. Louis spent two seasons (1974–1976) in the ABA, with Marvin Barnes, Maurice Lucas, and Moses Malone — one of the most beloved cult teams in pro basketball, made famous in part by their broadcaster Bob Costas getting his start there.
