The Memphis Mad Dogs played a single season in Canada's major professional football league in 1995 at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. Much of the ownership group had earlier pursued an unsuccessful NFL expansion bid as the Memphis Hound Dogs before turning to the Canadian league.

Owned by FedEx executive Fred Smith and coached by Pepper Rodgers, who had previously led the USFL's Memphis Showboats, the Mad Dogs fielded talent including Joe Horn, Damon Allen, Greg Battle, and Rodney Harding, and finished 9–9 with a division semifinal appearance. Attendance fell in the second half of the season amid scheduling conflicts with college and high school football, and the franchise folded after 1995 amid financial problems.
