The Hawaiians played both seasons of the WFL from 1974 to 1975 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, becoming the only major-league pro football franchise ever based in Hawaii. The team was a cornerstone of the WFL's marketing pitch — a true "world" league with a Pacific franchise — even though all opponents had to fly in for road games.

The Hawaiians finished 9–11 in 1974 and were sitting at 2–7 when the WFL suspended operations in October 1975. The franchise's two-season run remains Hawaii's only major-league professional football tenure to date.
