The Philadelphia Bell were charter members of the World Football League (WFL) in 1974, playing first at JFK Stadium and then Franklin Field in a city with one of the deepest football traditions in the country. The Bell were one of the few WFL franchises to survive both seasons, competing through 1975 before the league folded in October. In a league full of teams that collapsed mid-season or relocated, the Bell's two-season run in Philadelphia made them one of the WFL's steadier franchises — even if the city's NFL loyalties always belonged to the Eagles.
