In the fall of 1934, a barnstorming all-star team of American major leaguers — managed by Connie Mack and headlined by Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Charlie Gehringer, Lefty Gomez, and Earl Averill — toured Japan and went 18–0 against Japanese opposition. The tour helped seed professional international baseball in Japan, directly inspiring the 1936 founding of Nippon Professional Baseball.

It was Babe Ruth's last great international moment as an active player and remains one of the most consequential goodwill tours in baseball history. A 17-year-old Japanese pitcher famously struck out Ruth, Gehrig, Foxx, and Gehringer in succession in one celebrated outing.
