The Rhode Island Steelers played in the Atlantic Coast Football League (ACFL) and served as a minor league affiliate to Pittsburgh. They were coached by former Steelers running back Ray Mathews. The team could not attract fans nor could they win a game. With an 0-5-1 record, the team withdrew from the league mid-season after getting blown out by 41 points in front of a crowd of only 500 fans.
