The Aces were founded as an amateur team by Anglo-Canadian Pulp and Paper Mills, with the name an abbreviation of Anglo-Canadian Employees. The club won the Allan Cup in 1944 and turned professional the following year.
The Aces went on to become a farm team for the Philadelphia organization before the Quebec Nordiques moved into the Coliseum.
