The Michigan Stags were the relocated Los Angeles Sharks, moved east for the 1974–75 WHA season after the Sharks' two-season LA run ended. Playing at Cobo Arena, the Stags gave Detroit a second hockey option alongside the market's established top-tier franchise — a challenge that proved insurmountable.
The Stags lasted only half a season before financial pressure forced another relocation partway through 1974–75, this time to Baltimore as the Baltimore Blades — one of the shortest Michigan runs in WHA history.
