The Michigan Stags were the relocated Los Angeles Sharks, moved east for the 1974–75 World Hockey Association (WHA) season after the Sharks' two-season LA run ended. Playing at Cobo Arena in downtown Detroit, the Stags gave the Motor City a same-market WHA alternative to the established top-tier franchise — a structural challenge that proved insurmountable.

The Stags lasted only half a season in Detroit. Severe financial pressures and the difficulty of competing in a market dominated by the established team forced the franchise to relocate again partway through 1974–75, moving to Baltimore where it would finish the season as the Baltimore Blades. The Stags' brief Michigan run is one of the shortest in WHA history — but the blue-white-red color scheme and the elegant stag-head logo have made the jersey a perennial collector favorite.
