About the Tampa Smokers

The Tampa Smokers were a minor-league baseball franchise that played in the Florida International League from 1946 through 1954, with a heavy roster of Cuban and Latin American players. The Smokers played their home games at Plant Field in Tampa and were one of the most racially integrated minor-league franchises of the late 1940s and early 1950s. The franchise produced multiple future MLB players including Connie Marrero (Washington Senators) and Sandy Amorós (Brooklyn Dodgers, 1955 World Series star). The Florida International League folded after the 1954 season.
