The Chicago Whales — originally the Chi-Feds in 1914 — captured the 1915 Federal League pennant by half a game over the St. Louis Terriers. Owner Charlie Weeghman built a brand-new ballpark on the city's North Side that still stands today as Wrigley Field, the longtime home of the Cubs in major leagues.
When the Federal League folded after 1915, Weeghman bought the Cubs and moved them into his Whales ballpark for the 1916 season — a quirk of history that gave Wrigley Field its enduring tenant. Notable Whales included player-manager Joe Tinker (of Tinker-to-Evers-to-Chance fame) and Mordecai "Three Finger" Brown.
