The Chicago Whales played in the Federal League, which was a short-lived third major league, competing against the two established leagues. In its first season, the team had no name and was simply known as the Chicago Federals, or simply the Feds. The following season, the team took the Chicago Whales name and won what turned out to be the final Federal League championship. The Whales were the original tenants of Wrigley Field which was then known as Weeghman Park. Following the collapse of the Federal League, the Whales merged with the Cubs who then moved into Wrigley.
