The Tampa Bay Bandits are widely remembered as the most beloved franchise of the original United States Football League (USFL) (1983–1985), and the name was revived for the modern USFL's inaugural 2022 season. Few teams in pro football history captured a community quite like the original Bandits — built around the city of Tampa and beloved as the very embodiment of what spring football was supposed to be.
The original Bandits were coached by Steve Spurrier, whose innovative passing offense — nicknamed "Banditball" — became one of the league's most entertaining attractions. Principally owned by John F. Bassett with actor Burt Reynolds as a celebrity co-owner — the team's name itself drawn from Reynolds' 1977 hit film Smokey and the Bandit — the Bandits married Hollywood marketing flair with serious football. Bassett refused to support the league's planned move to a fall schedule and instead pushed for spring football's permanence. The Bandits went a combined 35–19 across three seasons with quarterback John Reaves leading the air attack and Gary Anderson serving as one of the league's premier dual-threat backs. Tampa Bay reached the playoffs in 1984 and 1985 before falling to the Birmingham Stallions in the divisional round of 1984 and to the Oakland Invaders in 1985. Bassett's vision, Spurrier's innovation, and Reynolds' star power combined to make the Bandits the standard-bearer for what a sustainable spring football franchise could be.
The revived Tampa Bay Bandits played a single season in the modern USFL (2022) under head coach Todd Haley, finishing 4–6 before the franchise was relocated to Memphis as the Showboats for 2023. Though brief, the modern Bandits' run carried forward one of original spring football's most cherished names.

How to order

- To order a fully blank jersey, check the "Leave blank" box. Blank jerseys still require full production time — we don't keep them in stock.

- Changes can only be made within 48 hours of purchase. After 48 hours, the order has entered production and we can't modify it.
- Cancellations after 48 hours are subject to a 20% restocking fee.
Construction options
Many jerseys offer choices like application method (replica/printed vs sewn tackle twill), sleeve length, or add-on patches. The available options appear on the customization screen as you go through it.
Custom measurements
We can produce jerseys in custom measurements including women's and youth sizes. We can also modify other details on the jerseys shown on the site. For these requests, email custom@royalretros.com before ordering.
Blank-jersey exchanges
Custom jerseys ordered blank (no name or number) can be exchanged for another size or for store credit. Custom jerseys with a name or number printed/sewn are final sale.

Production timeframe
Custom jerseys are made-to-order and ship in 3-7 weeks depending on construction style. The exact lead time for the style you choose is shown on the Decoration Type screen during customization.
Expedited shipping
Choosing an expedited shipping method does not speed up production, it only affects how we ship the order once it's been made. If you need your jersey by a specific date, contact us before ordering.
