The St. Louis Storm rolled into the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) in 1989, playing fast, attacking indoor soccer at the old St. Louis Arena in one of America's great soccer towns. Founded by businessman Milan Mandaric, the Storm quickly became a box-office hit, leading the entire league in attendance in both 1991 and 1992. The roster's biggest name was Yugoslav-born winger Preki, who starred for the club until its final whistle and later became one of the most celebrated players in U.S. soccer. When the league shut down after the 1991–92 season, the Storm went with it.
