The Sacramento Solons were a cornerstone of the minor leagues Pacific Coast League, representing California's capital across multiple eras between 1903 and 1976. For decades the franchise played at Edmonds Field on Riverside Boulevard, capturing the 1942 PCL pennant — the high point of a long run as one of the circuit's enduring West Coast members.

After a 1948 fire nearly leveled Edmonds Field, the ballpark was rebuilt and the Solons played on through 1960, when the franchise was sold and relocated to Honolulu to become the Hawaii Islanders. A short-lived revival brought Pacific Coast League baseball back to Sacramento from 1974 to 1976, closing the book on one of the West Coast's most storied minor-league names.
