The Philadelphia Fever helped launch the indoor soccer boom, competing in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) from 1978 to 1982 as one of its earliest franchises and playing home games at the legendary Spectrum. Sharing the same iconic arena as the city's hockey and basketball clubs, the Fever gave Philadelphia fans four seasons of fast, high-scoring soccer during the sport's first surge of indoor popularity. The franchise was granted a hiatus following the 1981–82 season and ultimately never returned.
