The Bell started out strong with its first 2 games averaging 60,000 fans rivaling the Eagles. It turned out that most of the tickets had actually been given away for free in what was known as "papergate scandal" and became an embarrassment to the league. Despite a losing record, the Bell somehow found themselves in the playoffs when their final opponent in the regular season forfeit and another team withdrew from the playoffs. The team returned in 1975, but the league folded midway through the season.
