With the help of a young Ted Williams, the Padres were off to a hot start finishing second in their inaugural season in 1936 and winning a championship in just their second year. Other top players included, Joe Horlen, Art Shamsky. Bobby Doerr, Minnie Minoso, Tony Perez, and Jack Merson. The next 20 years saw the team sold multiple times, the club had a resurgence in the 1960's becoming a dominant force in the Pacific league. When the bigs came to San Diego, the major league team took the Padres name while the original club moved to Oregon and rebranded.
