Titles: Inaugural season champions (1996–97)

The New Mexico Scorpions were established in 1996, playing their early seasons out of Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque as part of one of the Southwest's top professional hockey circuits. The club won the championship in its very first season, 1996–97, and returned to the finals in 1999–2000, losing in six games.

Following a league merger in 2001 and a suspended 2005–06 season, the Scorpions relaunched at the new Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho for 2006–07 and immediately won their division before going out in the conference championship series.

Attendance slid from the 4,000s down into the 2,000s in the years that followed, and the Scorpions ceased operations on July 2, 2009.
