The New Jersey Americans played the inaugural season of the American Basketball Association (ABA) at the Teaneck, NJ, Armory, a facility owned by the National Guard. The team finished the season tied for the final playoff spot and were set to host a play-in game. Unfortunately, a circus had already booked the arena and the team couldn't find a suitable venue in time. The Americans had to forfeit the play-in game and did not participate in the playoffs. The following season they moved to Long Island and became the Nets, changing their geographical designation to New York.
