The Michigan Panthers appeared in the first ever professional football game to broadcast on ESPN when they took on the Birmingham Stallions on March 7, 1983. The largest USFL crowd on record (60,200) was on hand when the Panthers defeated the Oakland Invaders for the league's Western Division Championship behind the leadership of rookie quarterback Bobby Hebert. The Panthers 1983 USFL Championship was the city of Detroit's first pro football title in 33-years and remains their most recent.
