The Miami Gatos were a single-season oddity in North American Soccer League (NASL), playing only the 1972 campaign after the franchise relocated to South Florida from Washington. Competing in the Southern Division, the Gatos used several Miami-area grounds including the famed Orange Bowl, but finished at the bottom of the standings and missed the playoffs in their lone year under the name. With a distinctive Spanish-language identity rare for the early league, the club gave Miami one of its first tastes of professional soccer. The team was rebranded for the following season.
