The first Hollywood Stars baseball team was established in 1926 when the Salt Lake City Bees relocated to the L.A. Basin. The club shared Wrigley Field with the fellow Pacific Coast League minor leagues Angels, who were also their landlords. When rent doubled, the Stars moved south to San Diego and became the Padres in 1936.

In 1938 the Mission Reds moved south from San Francisco and revived the Stars name. After a year at Wrigley they moved to Gilmore Field in the Fairfax neighborhood — the site where CBS Television City now stands. The arrival of the Dodgers in 1958 ended the Stars' run, sending the team to Salt Lake City. Notable players included Lefty O'Doul, Jimmy Dykes, Gus Bell, Bill Mazeroski, and Dick Stuart.
