Team: Fort Lauderdale Strikers
Years Active: 1977–1983 (NASL)
Home: Lockhart Stadium — Fort Lauderdale, FL

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers entered the North American Soccer League (NASL) in 1977 as a relocated franchise — the former Miami Toros, who had spent five seasons in the metro area before the move up the coast. Under coach Ron Newman, the Strikers won their division in their debut season at Lockhart Stadium.

Fort Lauderdale built a roster stocked with international names: former England goalkeeper Gordon Banks, Peruvian World Cup star Teófilo Cubillas, prolific West German striker Gerd Müller, and the mercurial George Best all wore Strikers colors. The club reached Soccer Bowl '80 before relocating north and becoming the Minnesota Strikers after the 1983 season.
