Team Info
The Detroit Wheels played in the World Football League in 1974. Although the team was able to draft future NFL players such as Ed "Too Tall" Jones, they were so poorly funded that they could not sign them. Instead the team was forced to hold open tryouts. The Wheels did make history by playing a game in Canada, the only WFL game outside the US. The season was otherwise a disaster with poor attendance and only one televised game. The owners walked away mid season and the league attempted to run the team. Unfortunately the Wheels folded after week 14 in their only season, finishing 1-13.
