The Casper Ghosts played four seasons of rookie-level Pioneer League baseball at Mike Lansing Field, part of the minor leagues. The franchise had landed in Wyoming in 2001 and spent seven seasons as the Casper Rockies before the 2008 rebrand — a nod to Casper the Friendly Ghost, the cartoon character who shares the city's name, and one of the sharpest identities the low minors have ever produced.

The lineage runs back further still: the club started life in 1987 as the Butte Copper Kings in Montana. After the 2011 season the team was sold and relocated to Grand Junction, Colorado, closing the Ghosts chapter after four summers in Casper.
