The Boston Minutemen brought big-league soccer to New England during the mid-1970s boom, competing in North American Soccer League (NASL) from 1974 to 1976. The club won its division in its very first season, splitting home dates between Boston College's Alumni Stadium and later Boston University's Nickerson Field as crowds turned out by the thousands. The franchise made headlines by bringing Portuguese legend Eusebio to the city, and the team captured a second straight Northern Division crown along the way. After three lively summers the Minutemen folded.
