The Memphis Sounds moved to Baltimore for the 1975-76 ABA season and the team was renamed the Hustlers. Many, including the league office, felt the name had negative connotations. The nickname was changed to the Claws before a game was played. The team acquired Dan Issel in a trade, however they never paid the $500,000 that was part of the relocation deal and Issel never joined the Claws. The team played just three preseason games and folded before the season due to financial problems.
