The original Montreal franchise was beloved, winning 4 championships. In 1981 a large gamble did not pay off when new ownership took on a large amount of debt to sign star players . The team struggled on the field and attendance dropped leading to the team folding at the end of the season. They were replaced by the Concordes, who eventually adopted the same name as the original team before it also folded in 1987. Today a third franchise carries on the name and legacy of the original Montreal football team.
