Pennsylvania's two big cities built deep and very different sporting histories. Philadelphia carried the Hilldale Club through the Negro Leagues, put the Stars in the USFL, and lost teams across hockey, soccer and football along the way. Pittsburgh gave the Negro Leagues the Crawfords and the Homestead Grays, two of the strongest clubs ever assembled, and later the Condors and the Maulers.
