The New York/New Jersey Hitmen were the XFL's flagship East Coast franchise in 2001, playing at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford and giving the New York metro market its only XFL team. The Hitmen finished 4–6 under head coach Rusty Tillman and missed the playoffs, but the Hitmen became one of the most enduring franchises of the 2001 XFL season.
