The Philadelphia Blazers were one of the twelve founding franchises of the World Hockey Association (WHA), playing a single, chaotic 1972–73 season at the Philadelphia Civic Center. The franchise made one of the WHA's most aggressive splashes by signing Boston superstar Derek Sanderson to a record-shattering contract — though Sanderson's tenure was famously short and unproductive. The Blazers also signed veteran Bernie Parent in goal and Andre Lacroix at center.

Lacroix put up an extraordinary 124-point season, but the franchise's on-ice and financial struggles in a Philadelphia market dominated by the established top-tier team forced ownership to relocate the franchise to Vancouver after a single season, where it would continue as the Vancouver Blazers. The Philadelphia Blazers' lone WHA season remains one of the most memorable single-year experiments in the league's history.
