The Chicago Owls spent one season in the Professional Football League of America before a merger folded them into the Continental Football League for its final two years. Marty O'Connor's club opened in 1967 on a high school field in suburban Niles, finished 3–9, and drew a few thousand fans a night. For 1968 the Owls did something nobody expected: they moved downtown into Soldier Field, which had sat without a pro football tenant since 1959, and brought in George Bork — the Northern Illinois star, fresh off three seasons in Canada — to play quarterback.
It half worked. Chicago lost four of its first five, fired coach Don Branby, and handed the job to backup quarterback Bob Webb, who steered the team to a 5–2 finish and a 6–6 record. The crowds never came — fewer than 6,000 a game in a stadium built for ten times that, and barely 3,500 a game the year after. The Chicago press turned the name into a running joke: mention the Owls and you got a hoot back, "Who?" The league revoked the franchise in December 1969 over missed payments, then folded itself soon after. One Owl kept going: rookie lineman Bob Kuechenberg, who left Chicago for a 14-year professional career and two championship rings.

How to order
- Type the number and/or name you'd like on the jersey in the customization fields. You can leave the name field blank if you only want a number.
- Names and numbers are made in ALL CAPS by default. If you want a specific style — such as a lowercase letter or mixed case — please add to the order notes, and/or email custom@royalretros.com.
- To order a fully blank jersey, check the "Leave blank" box. Blank jerseys still require full production time — we don't keep them in stock.
Important review carefully before ordering
Once your order is placed:
- Changes can only be made within 48 hours of purchase. After 48 hours, the order has entered production and we can't modify it.
- Cancellations after 48 hours are subject to a 20% restocking fee.
Construction options
Many jerseys offer choices like application method (replica/printed vs sewn tackle twill), sleeve length, or add-on patches. The available options appear on the customization screen as you go through it.
Custom measurements
We can produce jerseys in custom measurements including women's and youth sizes. We can also modify other details on the jerseys shown on the site. For these requests, email custom@royalretros.com before ordering.
Blank-jersey exchanges
Custom jerseys ordered blank (no name or number) can be exchanged for another size or for store credit. Custom jerseys with a name or number printed/sewn are final sale.

Production timeframe
Custom jerseys are made-to-order and ship in 3-7 weeks depending on construction style. The exact lead time for the style you choose is shown on the Decoration Type screen during customization.
Expedited shipping
Choosing an expedited shipping method does not speed up production, it only affects how we ship the order once it's been made. If you need your jersey by a specific date, contact us before ordering.
