The San Antonio Commanders played the abbreviated 2019 season in the AAF at the Alamodome, the longtime home of multiple San Antonio pro football experiments. The Commanders were one of the league's strongest draws, leading the AAF in attendance with average crowds above 27,000.
Head coach Mike Riley led the Commanders to a 5–3 record across the eight weeks of play before the league suspended operations in April 2019. Quarterback Logan Woodside operated the offense. San Antonio's strong support during the AAF run helped lay the groundwork for the city's later USFL and XFL franchises.
