About the San Francisco Demons

The San Francisco Demons were one of eight original 2001 XFL franchises in Vince McMahon's first attempt at a spring-football league. Coached by Jim Skipper and based at Pac Bell Park, the Demons went 5-5 in the league's only season and reached the playoffs before the XFL folded after just one year. Quarterback Pat Barnes and Mike Pawlawski split snaps, and the Demons drew respectable Bay Area crowds before the league's collapse.

The 2001 XFL is now best remembered as a wild experiment that crashed and burned spectacularly — too much pro-wrestling theater, not enough quality football — but the Demons' devil-tail logo and red-and-blue color scheme have aged into a cult-favorite spring-football look. The franchise's name was also revived in modern indoor and arena leagues.
