The Spirit of Miami was a proposed 1984 expansion franchise of the original United States Football League (USFL) that was approved by the league but folded before ever taking the field. Awarded to ownership in South Florida and slated to play at the Orange Bowl, the Spirit was forced to suspend operations during the league's 1983–1984 expansion period when the franchise was unable to secure stable funding ahead of the 1984 season. The Spirit of Miami remains one of the great "what-ifs" of original spring football — a phantom team whose proposed identity lives on as a tribute to the never-was era of South Florida USFL football.
