About the Orlando Rage
The Rage were the East Division winners of the original XFL's lone season in 2001, coached by Galen Hall (the former Florida Gators head coach) and quarterbacked by Jeff Brohm — yes, the future Purdue, Western Kentucky, and Louisville head coach. Playing at the Citrus Bowl in front of crowds that often topped 30,000, the Rage led the league in offensive efficiency, finished 8–2 in the regular season, and clinched home-field advantage through the playoffs.
Then the Rage bracket-busted themselves: in the semifinal, San Francisco Demons came to Orlando and won 26–2513 in a brutal upset, denying the Rage a shot at the Million Dollar Game. Ace cornerback Daryl Hobbs and a punishing defense couldn't carry the offense in the rain. Ten weeks later the league folded, and the Rage — the best team in XFL history by record — became one of the great "what if" franchises of spring football. Orlando finally got its alternative-football revenge with the Apollos in the AAF and the Guardians in the new XFL/UFL, but Rage merch never went out of style.
