The Orlando Thunder were a founding franchise of the World League of American Football (WLAF) in 1991, bringing spring football to central Florida. Coached by Don Matthews, the Thunder reached World Bowl '92 against the Sacramento Surge, falling 21–17 in the championship game.
Orlando was disbanded along with every U.S. and Canadian franchise when the league went on hiatus after 1992 and returned in 1995 as a European-only competition.
